Is the directory listing you are referring is still working?
Because I been doing that but my biggest problem is that most of the directory I tried to submit my site is not an automatic approved. It htook time to be approved and most of the time my submissions are not approved and posted.

Good article. Things to add:
1. Companies can also advertise (post an ad on the right side of the window) their services on Facebook. By seeing an interesting ad at the Facebook, users always pay attention and click on the link.
2. Businesses can provide more information on their company as well as posting announcements that can attract more people to participate on their Facebook page. Videos and discussion boards can be also relevant.
3. The promotion of the business on FaceBook can be also done through other FB groups (by posting ads, links, announcements, etc).

Nice article!
I can also add that in the promotional e-mails, it's better to include a clear and specific information about the event/product/service with explanation WHY people should participate. It usually makes people get interested and (at least) reply.
