However, there are many ways to obtain decent inward links without paying for them.

Now the first tip might be obvious but so many developers get so wrapped up in SEO and search engine rankings they take their eye of the ball and forget about actually building a content rich website that people would want to link to anyway.

So, tip 1 is to keep creating a valuable content rich website that people enjoy and would want to link to it naturally. Providing clear linking instructions on your website is well worth considering.

Articles – By posting great articles on your site and giving your visitors the option to use your article on their website, providing they give you credit and a link, is another great way to start.

Many website owners are constantly looking for fresh content to post on their sites and will actively search article directories for good quality articles to use.

Spend some time creating accounts at article directories such as ezinearticles.com and post some of your content up there for people to use.

Make sure that your article has been spidered and indexed on your site before posting it in the article directory sites, this way you will always be credited as the original source of the article and prevent your article being dubbed as duplicate content on your site.

Directories – Register your site with as many directory sites as you can. Most are free but some will require a small payment (usually the better ones). This can rapidly increase your backward links.

One thing to note when using these techniques is that the search engines look for a natural linking structure.

For example, if I suddenly appeared with 100 new links to my site and all of them linked using the same anchor text e.g. “Internet Marketing” the search engines would probably smell a rat so to speak.

Keep this in mind, regularly change your bio line in the article directories and when registering in the directory sites try to vary the key words you use in the links. This will give you a good natural link structure and each one will carry more weight.

Good luck – If you have any questions please feel free to leave a comment below and of course, please feel free to use this article on your website providing that you include this bio line at the bottom.
